CITY COUNCIL BUYS TIME FOR THREATENED SECTION 8 TENANTS
Mike Pucci, Housing Authority Manager, clarifies Section 8 problems for the
Alameda City Council at a July 1, 2004 special meeting.
Alameda City Council members passed a resolution in an emergency session held Thursday evening, July 1, to buy time. The City will pay July rents for 125 of the remaining families previously supported by HUD Section 8 rent vouchers. City officials are scrambling to find some way to help keep people from sleeping on the streets. 105 families, of the 254 supported by Section 8 vouchers which were cut by HUD, will receive rent help from the City over the next year. The remaining folks will suffer a month of sleepless nights wondering if they'll have a roof over their heads come August, and beyond. Click here to find links to coverage of events so far. |
