Petition to Save Estuary Park Land behind AAAAA Storage on Clement Avenue at Walnut (near the Marine Base) and along the water's edge was planned as a full-service city park in the 1991 Master Plan for the City of Alameda. However, on October 22nd the City Planning staff assisted a developer, BayRock Residential, in presenting a plan to the Planning Board to build 74 housing units on that land. The City is not pursuing funding to buy that land and build our park. Alamedans are interested in well balanced development, including complete community services for all the people. The North East end of needs Estuary Park. It has no full service public park. We want it and we can make it happen. We, the residents of Alameda, request the Mayor and City Council to postpone any decision allowing development of the Dutra/Fox properties until the end of 2002 so that the community can have time to search for funds to purchase, clean, and develop that land into Estuary Park, as proposed in the 1991 Master Plan.
