911 Speakout About the War on Terror A sign carried by a protestor in the streets of New York during the Republican National Convention that ended one week ago read, Bush hijacked our grief and flew it to Iraq. Seizing on the tragedy of the attack on September 11, the U.S. Government lied about ties between the attackers and Sadaam Hussein and lied about the threat of war weapons in Iraq to convince a frightened public that the United States must make war on Iraq. Sadness caused by deceit and greed The U.S. invasion of that country has torn a hole through an ancient culture, obliterating tens of thousands of people while killing and maiming thousands of our own. The war has destroyed so many only to enrich those who want to control oil and fatten off a world dependant

On the third anniversary of the attack on New York, while many remembered those killed in the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers, a rally in United Nations Plaza in San Francisco spoke about our soldiers and the many Iraqi civilians killed by a terrifying war. MotherSpeak.org, a website authored by Alameda writer Susan Galleymore, organized the rally. Susan invited mothers of U.S. soldiers injured and killed in the war. She also invited others to talk about the effect of war on American muslims, and about how budget cutbacks caused by the draining effect of the war's expense are shrinking community services, especially for veterans. A San Francisco labor leader talked about Proposition 'N' calling for the widthdawal of U.S. forces from Iraq. Click here to read about the rally and hear songs and speeches.
